Timothy J.
Private tutor in Canton, OH
Education
Grad Student Sociology and Spanish major at Kent State University
Experience
I tutored for 2 years at Kent State's Academic Success Center. My official title was "Peer Mentor," as I was not only to aide students with their substantive material, but also to assist them in study skills, time management, and help them through rough patches in the college transition. We specifically catered to first-generation college students, non-traditional students, and the disabled. I tutored all levels of Spanish and basic levels of Sociology (I am able to tutor higher levels of Sociology, but no students required this). I also tutored Spanish to a handful of students (private individual sessions) for a year after I left the Academic Success Center. These were advanced students in courses requiring them to comprehend and analyze literature written in Spanish. I graduated my undergraduate dual-major (Spanish/Sociology) from KSU summa cum laude with a 3.83 GPA (3.7 Spanish/4.0 Sociology). I was involved in the Honors College Program through which I received a 2 year (total $2000) scholarship. I also won the Outstanding Senior in Sociology Award (only 1 winner/year; total $150) as well as the Arts and Sciences Student Leader Award.
